About Growing Together: A Community Garden Project
Under the sponsorship of All Saints Episcopal Church of Crockett, and with the participation of the Crockett Independent School District, a group of local volunteers initiated a project to provide planting spaces and materials for a community garden. Our vision is to address the needs of the food-insecure population in Houston County through organizing community gardens, teaching gardening skills, and harvesting and sharing fresh vegetables. Through this, we hope to raise awareness, educate youth, strengthen community relationships and uplift the underserved communities of Houston County.
The first raised-bed garden space is located at Crockett Elementary School (Grades K – 5) with bed preparation and planting begun in the fall of 2025. Plans are underway for the second garden site to be located on the grounds of All Saints Episcopal Church. This location will be available to members of the community for family and individual gardening in the spring of 2026.
The committee has received an initial grant from the Episcopal Health Foundation as well as monetary and in-kind donations from local businesses and residents. Other funding sources are being reviewed to fully develop the program and maintain its sustainability.
